The stadium’s redevelopment plan.

Work at the Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium is on-going and despite public fears that the place is going to be turned into a training pitch and shopping complex, contractors Roko Uganda Limited confirm they are constructing a 36,000 capacity Stadium.

The shops are just part of the amenities of the stadium whose sitting capacity will almost be doubled upon completion.

The stadium is being developed in a Public Private Partnership between the government and property developer Hamis Kiggundu of Ham Enterprises Ltd.

There have also been rumours that upon completion the place will be a training pitch but Roko confirms they are constructing a world standard stadium.

“We are constructing a stadium whose foundation is 70 percent complete,” says Ainea Ashaba, the project manager of Roko Construction.

President Museveni gave the young tycoon a go ahead to redevelop the stadium after KCCA had halted plans.

Roko estimates that the stadium will be completed in less than three years.
