Former Uganda Cranes and KCCA FC attacker Mike Mutyaba has retired from football for the second time. Unlike in 2016 when he first retired after sustaining a horrible groin injury while at Express Football Club, this time he has hang up his boots due to a heart problem.

Mutyaba was diagnosed with a heart complication during a Uganda Cranes training camp in preparation for the CHAN 2020 tournament which was later postponed because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“It has been a hard decision to stand down from the beautiful game of football for the second time. Unlike the first time which was a groin injury, but this time it is a heart problem,” Mutyaba said.

According to Mutyaba, he started feeling complications when he lost his elder brother Tony Mukiibi in February this year.

“I started feeling bad when I lost my elder brother who was like daddy and mummy to our family because we lost our parents when we were still young and he took care of us as a family.

When I received a call that Mukiibi had been involved in an accident, I was from training at Lugogo but within a second, I received another call with sad news that he had passed on. In fact, I ended up getting high blood pressure,” he said.

In his football career, Mutyaba  had spells at Bunamwaya (2008-2011), Sudanese El Merriekh (2011-2013), TP Mazembe (Democratic Republic of Congo in 2013-2014), Vipers (2015-2016), Express (2018) and lately KCCA (2018-2020).
