Dorcus Inzikuru still chasing for gov’t pledges 16 years later

As the country is anticipating on what rewards await Uganda’s trio that flew high the Black, Yellow Red flag at the just concluded 2020 Olympics games in Tokyo, Japan, athlete Dorcus Inzikuru  has revealed that she’s still chasing for pledges years later.

The 2005 IAAF World Championships gold medalist at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki, Finland Inzikuru says though she got some of the pledges like land and a house, she however has not received her car since then.

With athletics in the limelight at the moment, Inzikuru feels like its indeed the perfect timing for her to resume the process to claim her car as promised by Government when she won a gold medal.

Over the years, athletes have accused government of failing to walk the talk of the pledges.  David Emong who won Uganda its first Paralympics silver medal at Rio 2016, is also among those still waiting for fulfillment of the pledges made to him.

On several occasions, President Museveni has resounded his promise that whoever wins a gold medal at an international or continental competition would get a monthly salary of Shs5 million, a silver Shs3 million and Shs1 million for bronze.  Nonetheless, athletes complain that the month delays to reach their respective accounts as they have to always first remind the authorities.

Also, the Uganda Cranes team that reached 2017 AFCON finals after 39 years is yet to receives its $1m pledges made by Museveni.
