Arsenal has renewed it’s sleeve sponsorship deal with Visit Rwanda as the government builds on its campaign to boost tourism through partnerships with European football clubs.

According to Football London, it’s a four year deal worth up to £10million (about Shs49b) a year which amounts to Shs195 billion in four years.

Rwanda and Arsenal first signed a three-year sponsorship deal in 2018, a deal that was worth more than £30million with the ‘Visit Rwanda’ logo displayed on the Gunners’ shirt sleeve. The move attracted criticism with many wondering why a poor country like Rwanda would sponsor a wealthy club.

Over the weekend, Rwanda President Paul Kagame made rant on social media following Arsenal’s defeat in opening Premier League game of the season against Brentford.

“What?? It’s football, it’s a loss of Arsenal at/to Brentford. Brentford deserved to win and they did. The game itself aside Arsenal and the fans don’t deserve to kind of get used to this….NO !!! I say this as one of the big fans of Arsenal. The change has taken to long to come!” said Kagame.
