Kenyan golfer John Muchiri successfully defended his title as the Senior’s Champion on Saturday during the Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Seniors Open at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort Golf & Spa.

Playing at handicap four, Muchiri returned to the winners’ podium for the second time in a row following his first win of the tournament last year, 2021 in Entebbe.

The meticulous golfer bested his competition, former Works and Transport-cum-Karamoja Affairs State Minister Eng. John Byabagambi, by one stroke leading him to a victory score of 157 over 36 holes.

“I am happy to have defended my Senior’s title at the Tusker Malt Uganda Open. The competition was very tough when we got to the 18th hole but I managed to maneuver!” he remarked at the prize-giving ceremony.

Muchiri had a total of 5 birdies throughout; three on day one on holes 8, 13 and 17 as well as holes 3 and 14 on day two.

In the Ladies Category, Edrae Kagombe of the Uganda Golf Club scored 93 and 98 registering a total score of 191 to win the Ladies Trophy.

“A big congratulations to today’s winners! This is truly one of those rewarding moments for us because we get to celebrate golf, the players as well as our commitment to the sport. Our partnership with the Golf Union is one that we value a lot as we continue to inspire many others to join the sport,” shared Mark Kamanyire, Tusker Malt Brand Rep.

The Prize Giving Awards ended with Myko Ouma and his band performing for guests who were lounging at Tusker Malt’s Hospitality Village for the rest of the evening.

Next week of the tournament will proceed with the Amateurs Open on October 19th and a Par 3 Competition on the same day with sponsors; Absa Bank Uganda, NBS Sport, CASE Medicare, HK Properties, Motorola, Lake Victoria Serena Resort Golf& Spa, and Tusker Malt.

 The Professionals Open will then be the climax of the tournament, starting Wednesday, October 26th to 29th at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort Golf & Spa.
