Ugandan youngster Derrick Kakooza has completed his move to the Egyptian Premier League outfit ENPPI.

The forward became a free agent last year after his contract with Latvia’s Valmiera was terminated.

Kakooza was first reported to be on the verge to join Finland side KuPs as he even reportedly feature in their game about two weeks ago, but the young forward instead completed his move to the Petroleum club after agreeing on personal terms with the club.

The 20-year-old was the top scorer of the 2021 U20 African Cup of Nations after scoring five goals, guiding the Carnes to a historic silver medal in their first-ever appearance in the competition.

He has also represented Uganda’s senior team in five games.

His new club seeks to improve their sixteenth place in the Egyptian Premier League, as they fight against their first relegation since getting promoted in 2002.

Players from Uganda have struggled to become established in North African clubs in the meantime. The most recent players include; Allan Okello, Milton Kariisa, Joel Madondo, Abdul Lumala, and Emmanuel Okwi among others.

But Allan Kyambadde, who joined El Gouna of the Egyptian Premier League in 2019, has been able to make a name for himself.
