Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei has showcased his indomitable spirit, securing a third consecutive gold in the men’s 10,000 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

Despite grappling with injuries early this year and struggling to regain his peak performance, the holder of both the 5000m and 10,000m world records exhibited a remarkable resurgence on a sweltering and humid evening in Budapest.

Approaching the final lap, Cheptegei surged ahead, leaving no doubt about his dominance as he blazed through the last 400 meters in a mere 53 seconds, clinching victory with a remarkable time of 27:51.42.

Claiming the silver medal was Daniel Simiu Ebenyo of Kenya, while the bronze went to Selemon Barega of Ethiopia.

Cheptegei’s triumph now places him alongside the elite ranks of sporting legends such as Mo Farah, Kenenisa Bekele, and Haile Gebrselassie, as he becomes the fourth individual in history to clinch three consecutive 25-lap world titles.

Continuing to cement his supremacy in the sport, Cheptegei’s achievements continue to flourish. He currently holds the title of reigning Olympic champion in the 5000 meters and proudly sports a silver medal in the 10,000 meters category.

Fans can anticipate Cheptegei’s return to the track next week, as he gears up for the 5000m final, where he aims to further etch his name into the annals of athletic excellence.
