Meet Toby Sibbick, the Uganda Cranes defender who has joined the English side Wigan Athletic

Uganda Cranes defender Toby Sibbick has signed a two-year deal with Wigan Athletic, joining from Scottish Premiership side Hearts.

The 25-year-old expressed his excitement on social media, saying, “So excited to start this new chapter at this huge football club. Let’s create many memories together. Can’t wait to get started.”

 began his career at AFC Wimbledon in 2016 and quickly established himself as a regular player.

He made 31 appearances before moving to Barnsley in 2019 and later joining Hearts on loan. After a permanent move to Hearts in 2022, Sibbick became a key player, inspiring the team to notable victories and making 41 appearances in the 2022/23 season.

Wigan’s First Team Manager, Shaun Maloney, praised Sibbick’s versatility and intelligence, saying, “I am extremely pleased to welcome Toby to our Football Club… He is an intelligent footballer with great qualities, and I am looking forward to working with him closely.”

Sibbick made his international debut for Uganda in March 2023 and has since featured 29 times for Hearts in the 2023/24 season. He joins Wigan Athletic with a wealth of experience in the EFL, Scottish Premiership, and international football.
