In a thrilling finale that capped off an exciting season, Massape Class of 2004 emerged as the champions of the Budo League Season 7 at Legends Rugby Grounds in Lugogo on Sunday.

The reigning champions of the Guinness sponsored competition who have dominated the league for the past two seasons, continued their winning streak by defeating Accumulators (03) with a score of 1-0.

Massape Class of 2004 truly lived up to their name, which translates loosely to “showing off” or “flamboyance,” during the awarding ceremony. Their victory celebration was a spectacle of pride and joy. As they took the stage, their excitement infectious and their flamboyant spirit shone through.

“We did our best, brought our best game, had amazing players on our team all season and the results speak for themselves. This is a great solid win for us,” shared Kafuuma Henry Ziriddamu, Team Captain Massape.

Their narrow victory against the formidable Accumulators (03) highlighted their resilience and commitment to the game.

Aaron Akampa, President of the Budo League, praised the champions, saying, “Massape Class of 2004 has consistently set the bar high for excellence in the Budo League. Their dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship are exemplary, and they truly deserve this victory. Congratulations to all the teams for a fantastic season.”

The Budo League continues to attract a diverse audience, from ardent football enthusiasts to those seeking a delightful Sunday outing. This is among the many reasons the Guinness brand came on board to sponsor the league.

“The Old Boys Leagues present the perfect opportunity for the brand to connect closely with our consumers. The Massape Class of 2004, as the Season 7 winners, are shining bright as examples of consistency and determination. We are proud to support an event that also supports the spirit of inclusivity and talent, which aligns perfectly with our Black Shines Brightest campaign,” said Patience Aguti, Project Manager, UBL.

However, the grand finale was not just about football. The rest of the evening was punctuated with epic music mixes, dance and entertainment culminating in a grand fireworks display.

The entertainment lineup featured an array of performances, starting with the soulful tunes of Kohen Jaycee, followed by the jolting beats of Fem DJ who read the room and delivered an exciting set, setting the stage for the grand performance by Fik Fameica, who thrilled the crowd with his hit songs.

Season 8 of The Budo League, an alumni league for former students of King’s College Budo, returns in November 2023.

Meanwhile the other leagues sponsored by Guinness including SMACK League, Chaapa League Butiki League and NGO League among others are still ongoing.
