The second season of the SHACK League kicked off in high gear on Sunday, October 6. Eighteen (18) alumni teams from St. Henry’s College Kitovu took to the field for an exhilarating start to the six-month football tournament, with both fans and players enjoying a day of intense competition and fun. The SHACK League is one of the several alumni football tournaments that Guinness sponsors in a bid to foster communion.

Match Day One set the tone for what promises to be a thrilling season ahead. Teams representing different generations of St. Henry’s College alumni, from as early as the class of 1993 to as recent as 2019, are going head-to-head in a display of skill and sportsmanship. The games featured teams such as Centennials, Olympians (2014-2019), Basaja Bakame, Jabarians, Ma Peace (2008-2013), Green Cave, Dico’s Brigade (2002-2007), and more, each eager to make their mark on the tournament.

Brian Charles “Omutegeke” Ssenyonjo, the Head of Technical, expressed his excitement following the successful start. “Match Day One was an incredible experience, and the energy from both players and supporters was infectious. We are excited to be bringing generations of alumni together to celebrate the values of St. Henry’s College Kitovu. Over the next six months, we will see fun, networking, and of course, an opportunity to keep fit and healthy. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Guinness and all our sponsors for making this possible.”

The SHACK League will feature a total of 89 games, with the 18 teams divided into two groups.

During a press conference in Rubaga on Friday, before the official start of the season, SHACK League leaders expressed their excitement for the months ahead, noting that the league also provides an opportunity for alumni to give back to the school. Through the SHACK League, old students plan to contribute towards painting the school and organising a medical camp, demonstrating their commitment to the institution that shaped them.

“The SHACK League is an embodiment of St. Henry’s College Kitovu values – integrity, excellence, and community. As old students, we showcase talent, unity, and sportsmanship while giving back to the school that shaped us,” said Tonny Muliika, one of the league’s organisers.

Guinness, the league’s main sponsor, is bringing an extra layer of excitement to the tournament for league players off the pitch.

“We love the old boys’ community and Guinness is thrilled to be part of SHACK League Season 2. We’re celebrating the spirit of brotherhood and togetherness among the old boys, and the brand is here to ensure that they get an amazing experience.”

In addition to Guinness, the SHACK League is supported by several sponsors, including Jibu Water, Jevine Hotel, Galaxy FM, and NBS Sport, all of whom are contributing to the success of the season.
