CAF increases prize money for Women’s Champions League; each team to receive a minimum of Shs550 million, winner to get Shs2.2 billion

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a prize boost for the CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024. Each of the eight participating clubs will receive a minimum of $150,000 (about Shs551 million) in prize money just for taking part in the competition.

This increase aims to foster competitiveness and growth in women’s football across Africa. Under the leadership of Dr. Patrice Motsepe, CAF has been committed to elevating women’s football, including establishing the Women’s Champions League in 2021.

This year, the prize pool has seen a 52% increase, now reaching $2,350,000 (about Shs8.6 billion).

The prize distribution for the tournament is as follows: winner – $600,000 (about Shs2.2 billion), runner-up – $400,000 (about Shs1.5 billion), 3rd place – $350,000 (about Shs1.3 billion), 4th place – $300,000 (about Shs1.1 billion), 3rd in group stage – $200,000 (about Shs735 million) each, and 4th in group stage – $150,000 each (about Shs551 million).

Eight teams are set to compete in this tournament, which kicks off this Saturday in Morocco. These include defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), hosts ASFAR (Morocco), Aigles de la Medina (Senegal), EDO Queens (Nigeria), University of the Western Cape (South Africa), FC Masar (Egypt), CBE FC (Ethiopia), and TP Mazembe (DR Congo).
