Shs19 billion for winner as CAF announces Shs38 billion prize money package for CHAN 2024

The 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) has received a major financial boost, with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announcing an increase in prize money.

The winner of the competition will now take home $3.5 million (about Shs12.9 billion), a 75% increase from the previous edition.

CAF also announced that the total prize money package for CHAN Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania 2024 has been increased to $10.4 million (about Shs38 billion), representing a 32% rise.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe said: “The CHAN is an important competition for the development and growth of Africa-based football players and talented young players. It will contribute significantly to the global competitiveness of African football and CAF competitions. This competition is part of our strategy to invest in African football and make it appealing and attractive to football fans, TV viewers, sponsors, partners, and other stakeholders in Africa and worldwide.”

The CHAN 2024, which will be held in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, is scheduled to start on Saturday, February 1, 2025, with the final taking place on Friday, February 28, 2025.

Seventeen countries have already qualified for the competition: Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco, Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Sudan, Zambia, Angola, and Madagascar.

Two additional countries will qualify after the remaining matches.
