Uganda Cranes delivered a solid performance to secure a crucial 1-0 victory over Guinea in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture at Namboole Stadium this evening.

Coming into this Group G matchday six encounter, the Cranes were looking to bounce back from a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Mozambique at the Cairo International Stadium last week. Guinea, on the other hand, had suffered a setback of their own after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw against bottom-placed Somalia, denting their qualification hopes.

Determined to make amends, Uganda found the breakthrough in the 35th minute when Allan Okello’s exquisite curling free-kick sailed past Guinea’s goalkeeper Soumaïla Sylla, nestling into the bottom right corner. The goal sent the home crowd into wild celebrations.

Paul Put’s men displayed resilience, holding onto their lead despite relentless pressure from Guinea. Both sides created opportunities, but Uganda’s defense stood firm, denying the visitors an equalizer. The Cranes also had chances to extend their lead but couldn’t convert them.

The electric atmosphere at Namboole Stadium played a crucial role, with passionate home fans roaring in support, cheering every tackle, pass, and save.

With this victory, Uganda climbs to third place in Group G with nine points. Algeria and Mozambique sit atop the table with 12 points each. Only the group winners will secure automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the four best second-placed teams across all groups will have another shot through the Inter-Confederation Playoffs.

With four games remaining, Uganda remains firmly in contention for a historic World Cup spot.
