Nigerian boxer Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, widely known as “Success” in the boxing community, passed away after collapsing during a match in Ghana. He was 40 years old.

Olanrewaju was competing against Jonathan Mbanugu of Ghana in a light-heavyweight bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, March 29, when he suddenly fell backward into the ropes and appeared to lose consciousness.

He was swiftly transported to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where, despite efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

In response to the incident, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has announced an investigation into Olanrewaju’s death, as well as the safety protocols in place during the fight.

Olanrewaju began his professional boxing career in 2019, going on to win national and West African championship titles. Before his final fight, he had 13 career wins—12 by knockout—and eight losses.
