Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), in partnership with Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, will this week host a dynamic group of global influencers from the UK, USA, and Dubai for the Rwenzori Marathon in Kasese on August 23. Among the notable guests is internationally renowned sports commentator Rob Walker, who will run alongside his family. The engagement forms part of UTB’s ongoing efforts to position Uganda as Africa’s leading adventure tourism destination under the Explore Uganda brand.

Beyond the marathon, the visiting group of global influencers will embark on a curated adventure itinerary that includes gorilla trekking, exploring Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks, and experiencing Uganda’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

Chief Executive Officer of UTB, Juliana Kagwa, notes that the Board will leverage the influencers’ participation to drive global visibility for both the Rwenzori Marathon and Uganda’s tourism through real-time digital storytelling, international media coverage, and behind-the-scenes content. “The influencers represent audiences across multiple continents, and their storytelling will showcase the excitement and beauty of Uganda’s adventure offerings. The Rwenzori Marathon is more than a race. It is an invitation to the world to come and experience the Pearl of Africa’s wonders and the great offerings the destination is privileged to possess,” she added.

Sporting events like the Rwenzori Marathon are powerful magnets for international visitors. They bring athletes and adventure seekers to our landscapes and open new opportunities to market Uganda beyond the well-known wildlife. Adventure tourism is one of the fastest-growing travel segments globally, and Uganda is perfectly positioned to lead—from mountain races and gorilla trekking to white-water rafting and cultural immersions.

While receiving Rob Walker and his family at the airport, Amos Wekesa, the team lead for the Rwenzori Marathon, noted that the return of Rob Walker was monumental, highlighting the growth and impact of the marathon as one of the major sports tourism drivers in the country that greatly showcases Destination Uganda’s offerings globally.

The influencer line-up includes Rob Walker (UK) – international sports commentator and adventure travel enthusiast, Sean Hammond (USA), Nicholas Butter (UK), and Angus Maxified (Dubai). Throughout their journey, the influencers will share their experiences on social media platforms, travel blogs, and video channels, giving their audiences an authentic look at Uganda’s adventure, culture, and hospitality.

The Rwenzori Marathon, set against the breathtaking backdrop of the snow-capped Rwenzori Mountains, has quickly grown into a signature event on Uganda’s sports and tourism calendar, attracting elite athletes, casual runners, and adventure seekers from around the world.
