The last hosting nation standing at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, Uganda, has bowed out after a hard-fought 1-0 defeat to defending champions Senegal at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

With neighbours Kenya and Tanzania eliminated yesterday by Madagascar and Morocco respectively, Uganda carried East Africa’s final hopes into tonight’s clash. However, the Cranes’ historic run was cut short as the Lions of Teranga proved ruthless when it mattered most.

Uganda created several clear-cut chances but failed to convert, leaving the door open for Senegal. In the 62nd minute, Oumar Ba punished the hosts, slotting home what proved to be the decisive goal.

The Cranes, who were chasing a first-ever semi-final appearance after reaching the quarterfinals for the very first time, poured everything into the game. Backed by a passionate home crowd that filled Namboole with colour and song, they pressed relentlessly but could not find the breakthrough.

Despite the heartbreak, Uganda leaves CHAN 2024 with pride, having achieved their best-ever performance in the tournament. For many fans, the campaign symbolised resilience, unity, and a glimpse of a brighter footballing future.
