The SMACK League, powered by Guinness, returns this Sunday, October 12, for Matchday 2 at the IUEA Sports Grounds in Kansanga, Kampala.

Following a thrilling season opener that featured a goal galore across the two groups, live music, and the Guinness Matchday experience, the second weekend of Season 8 promises another exciting outing for fans and players alike.

Among the weekend’s headline fixtures is a derby clash between Devilz (2004) and Outkasts (2005). Both sides come into the match eager to register their first win.

Windows (2003) will take on Bushmen (2001) while Mafiaz (2011) face Vikingz (2014). Zimbaz (2006) challenge the league’s most senior side, Mama Teo Legends (80-98).

Elite (2008) and Gladiatorz (2016) both had more than one player named in the Team of the Week for Matchday One. Elite’s Paul Bate stood out as Player of the Week after scoring a brace in their two-nil win over Outkasts. He will be one to watch again as his side takes on Block Owners (2002) in what promises to be a tightly contested mid-morning fixture.

In Group A, the 11-team log has four perfect sides. Zimbaz, Vendorz, Bushmen and Elite all picked up convincing wins in the opening round.

Zuluz, Outkasts, Mama Teo Legends, Devilz and Windows will be looking to turn things around as they seek redemption on Matchday 2.

Group B was ruthless on opening weekend, with no draws recorded in any of the fixtures. The group has six perfect sides. Vulcanz, Gladiators, Cyclones, Mafiaz, Phantomz and Pirates all started strong with victories and now lead the early standings.

Lycanz, Spartans, Vikingz, Knights and Tsunamis will be looking to respond and get their campaigns back on track.

Speaking ahead of the weekend action, David Kawooya, Chief Marketing Officer of the SMACK League, said the buzz around Matchday 2 is already high.

“We are building on the momentum from Matchday One, which was a real statement of how far this league has come. Everyone should expect top-level competition, music, great vibes, and of course, Guinness,” he said.

Mercy Atwongyeire, Project Manager for Premium Beer at Uganda Breweries Limited, said Guinness is proud to once again be at the heart of the action.

“Matchday One set the tone. We saw passion, energy and connection. That is everything Guinness stands for. This weekend, we are taking it up a notch higher. It is about giving the old boys something to look forward to. We are committed to making every matchday unforgettable,” she said.

As Matchday 2 approaches, teams will be looking to build momentum and secure their rightful places on the table, with Guinness set to elevate the experience.
