Golf enthusiasts from across Uganda are set to gather at Kampala Golf Club this Saturday for the 2025 Kenya Golf Day–Jamhuri Tournament. The annual event, held in honour of Kenya’s Independence Day on 12 December, returns this year as the country marks its 61st Jamhuri anniversary.

The tournament was officially launched last Thursday by Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, Ambassador Joash Maangi, who said this year’s edition is expected to be even more vibrant than last year’s. He noted that beyond the competition, the event provides an important avenue for celebrating shared culture and strengthening ties between the two nations. “Such ventures go a long way in strengthening ties in the region, integrating the region and making it stronger,” he said.

The 2025 tournament is supported by several partners, including Equity Bank Uganda, Uganda Baati, Kenya Ports Authority and Axian Telecom. Equity Bank reaffirmed its commitment to backing initiatives that promote regional cooperation.

Johnson Galabuzi, Segment Head for Personal Banking, said the Bank values partnerships that foster unity and growth. “Our support symbolises how partnerships and friendship drive us forward in achieving our shared values through sports,” he noted.

Kampala Golf Club captain Charles Rukundo revealed that the tournament will be strictly amateur, with no professional golfers taking part. As a result, no cash prizes will be awarded. Instead, players will compete for a range of assorted prizes and “state-of-the-art” giveaways across various categories, including Ladies and Men in Groups A–C, as well as a guest player category.

This year’s competition will be played under the Stableford format, a scoring system that rewards players with points on each hole. The golfer with the highest point total wins. Unlike stroke play, where every shot counts against the player, Stableford allows competitors to recover quickly after a poor hole, keeping the contest exciting throughout.

With preparations finalised and anticipation growing, the 2025 Kenya Golf Day–Jamhuri Tournament is set to deliver a lively blend of sport, culture and regional unity.
