President Yoweri Museveni has received the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award in recognition of Uganda’s role—alongside Kenya and Tanzania—in successfully co-hosting the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The honour was presented on Wednesday in Rabat during the 2025 CAF Awards. CAF President Patrice Motsepe commended the three East African leaders for their commitment to advancing African football through the joint organisation of what CAF hailed as the most successful CHAN tournament ever held.

Kenyan President William Ruto and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan were also acknowledged for their efforts in ensuring the tournament’s smooth delivery.

CAF attributed the event’s success to the collaborative approach taken by the three countries, noting improvements in stadium readiness, logistics and overall operational standards.

The trio is now preparing for an even bigger assignment—the co-hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Major infrastructure projects, including Hoima City Stadium in Uganda and the Talanta Sports Stadium in Kenya, are currently in their final stages as the region gets ready for the continental showpiece.
