Equity Bank Uganda, in partnership with the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO), has officially launched the 5th Edition of the Equity NARO Golf Open 2025, a three-day golf tournament scheduled from 27th to 29th November at the Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club in Namulonge.

Nestled within Uganda’s largest agricultural research centre, the 9-hole Mary Louise Simkins Golf Club has earned a reputation as a hub for nurturing golfing talent. Its scenic and challenging course provides an ideal setting for skill development and competitive play.

This year’s tournament is themed “17 Years of Transforming Lives in Uganda”, celebrating Equity Bank’s 17 years of impact in the country’s financial sector. The event will bring together golfers, corporate leaders, customers, and community partners for competition, networking, and celebration.

At the launch, Claver Serumaga, Executive Director of Equity Bank Uganda, emphasised the bank’s commitment to sports development and community engagement.

“The Equity NARO Open is more than a tournament; it is a celebration of legacy, community, and talent. As we mark 17 years of serving Ugandans with transformational financial solutions, we are proud to support Namulonge Golf Club, which has shaped the careers of many of the country’s finest golfers. Our partnership reflects our commitment to shared prosperity and to walking hand in hand with communities to transform lives,” Serumaga said.

To commemorate the milestone, the 17th hole of the tournament will be symbolically designated as the Equity 17th Hole, representing the bank’s 17 years of progress alongside its customers, partners, and communities.

The Namulonge Golf Club has previously hosted several notable tournaments, including the Namulonge Ladies Open (May 2025) and the K&K Invitational Pro-Am (July 2025), both supported by Equity Bank. These events have played a key role in growing golf in the central region of Uganda.

Star golfer Meron Kyomugisha, winner of the 2022 Namulonge edition and the recent 27th Kinyara Golf Open in Masindi, is expected to be among the top contenders, promising an exciting competition.

Speaking at the launch, Sheila Aine, Lady Captain of the Mary Louise Simkins Memorial Golf Club, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support:

“It is an honour to host the Equity Namulonge Golf Open. This tournament allows us to showcase our beautiful course and continue promoting women’s golf in Uganda. We deeply appreciate Equity Bank and all partners who have supported this initiative.”
