The I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series is gearing up for its season finale this Saturday, November 29, at Entebbe Club. This will be the fifth event of the series, and shall also close the 2025 season.

The season finale comes a few days after a contigent of Ugandan golfers traveled to Kigali, Rwanda, and participated in the second cross-border I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series tournament at Kigali Golf Resort and Villas.

The one-day tournament, dubbed the ‘Virunga Challenge,’ had over 200 golfers compete on the Kigali greens, and later enjoyed a Katogo-style 19th hole prize-giving ceremony. The tournament attracted over 120 Ugandan golfers, mainly Katogo members, but saw Rwandan golfers take the lion’s share of the podium finishes.

The series’ finale kicked off with the traditional online Daily Trivia quizzes, and come Saturday, the participant who answers the most questions correctly will be recognised and shall receive a special prize at the prize-giving ceremony.

Katogo Captain- Elly Kibuka Mukasa says that they are excited to close out what has been a successful and fulfilling season.

“What an incredible season we’ve had. We thank the golfers who have religiously turned up for all this season’s events, including the recent Kigali edition. But most importantly, we thank our sponsors for their support and commitment to the series. We look forward to a memorable time with all golfers this Saturday,” he said.

I&M Bank, the series title sponsors, emphasized its pride in supporting a series that has grown into a standout fixture on the Uganda Golf Union calendar.

“I think we can all agree that by now the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series needs little or no introduction! The series has become one of the biggest, if not the biggest, golf tournament in the country. It’s the only tourmnament that has been able to host some of its events outside the country. We are honored to be part of that growth journey, and we believe the sky is the limit. We look forward to closing the season in style, alongside the golfers who make this series what it is,” Annette Nakiyaga, the I&M Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, said.

The season finale will be played under the ‘In Regulation’ format. This is an individual format that challenges players to hit the green in the designated number of strokes for each hole- i.e. one shot on for a par three, two on for a par four, and three on for a par five. If a golfer misses the green in regulation, a stroke penalty is added, but if they still make par or better through skillful chipping/ putting, the penalty is waived. This format tests precision off the tee and strategic approach play, while rewarding strong short game and course management.

Saturday’s winners will be awarded with a wide range of prizes, including gongs for the overall top men and ladies, the top three finishers in each group, as well as side bets. Prizes will include air tickets, golf apparel, vouchers, getaways, and trophies. Victoria Motors has once again put up a Mitsubishi Xpander as the hole-in-one prize.

Crooner Elijah Kitaka will headline the shades of blue themed 19th hole experience, bringing a warm, soulful vibe to the after ‘par-tee.’

His smooth vocals that have seen him churn out some of the biggest songs this year, coupled with his easygoing stage presence, will set the perfect mood for what promises to be a memorable eveing.

Golfers can look forward to a night filled with his favorite hits, including Daily Bundle, Ekyange, Good Idea, and Dawa, among others, all shared in good company and wrapped in the vibrant spirit that makes the Katogo Series truly special.

Comedian Patrick Idringi aka Salvado, the official Katogo series host, will keep the program lively, engaging, and full of energy.

The I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series is sponsored by Johnnie Walker, Victoria Motors, GA Insurance Rwanda Air, Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Kampala Serena Hotel, Fenon Events, Goldman’s Luxury, NBS Sport, Case Hospital, and Time Cop Security.
