Vipers SC are set to make a major financial gain after completing the sale of midfielder Allan Okello to Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC in a deal reportedly worth about $300,000 (approximately Shs 1 billion).
The transfer represents a huge return for the Kitende-based club, which signed Okello for free in September 2023 after he mutually parted ways with Algerian side Paradou AC. Just over a year later, Vipers have turned that free transfer into one of the most lucrative deals in their history.
Okello, a Uganda Cranes midfielder, signed a three-year contract upon joining Vipers and quickly established himself as a key player. His creativity and attacking influence helped the club win both the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup, further boosting his market value. He also impressed on the international stage with the Uganda Cranes during CHAN and World Cup qualification matches.

The move to Young Africans sees Okello become Vipers’ second-biggest sale ever, behind Farouk Miya’s $500,000 transfer to Belgian club Standard Liège in 2016. For Vipers, the deal is a clear example of smart business—no transfer fee paid initially, followed by a sale worth close to a billion shillings.
Negotiations were finalised last week after Young Africans president Eng. Hersi Said travelled to Uganda and held talks with Vipers SC president Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa. The agreement was swiftly concluded, paving the way for Okello’s move to Tanzania.
At Young Africans, Okello is expected to add creativity and experience as the club targets domestic success and a stronger showing in the CAF Champions League. His medical examination is scheduled to take place in Zanzibar, with his official unveiling set for Tuesday.
Confirming the transfer, Dr. Mulindwa praised the midfielder’s contribution to the club, saying Okello had been outstanding during his time at Kitende and deserved the next step in his career.
