Absa Bank Uganda has announced the return of the Absa KH3 – 7 Hills Run, a purpose-driven initiative that has grown beyond a race into a powerful movement for social change. Partnering once again with the Kampala Hash House Harriers, this year’s edition will take place on April 26, 2026, at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.
Since its launch in 2023, the event has raised an impressive Shs900 million to support girls’ education across Uganda. Each year reflects growing impact: Shs200 million in 2023, Shs300 million in 2024, and Shs400 million in 2025. This year, the organisers are aiming even higher, with a target of 8,000 participants.

“This isn’t just about running,” said David Wandera, Managing Director of Absa Bank Uganda, speaking at the launch. “It’s about creating lasting change. When we keep a girl in school, we are investing in the future of our communities and our country. The response over the past two years has been incredible. More than 21,900 girls have already benefited from these funds, and this is only the beginning.”
The run is also a celebration of Kampala’s rich heritage. Covering 21 kilometres across the city’s historic seven hills—Kibuli, Nakasero, Old Kampala, Namirembe, Rubaga, Lubiri and Nsambya—participants experience the capital in a unique way. The course is demanding, scenic and deeply meaningful.
Alice Gita Okecho, Hash Master of the Kampala Hash House Harriers, expressed her excitement about the partnership. “We have organised the 7 Hills Run since 2000 to promote healthy lifestyles, especially in the corporate world. Partnering with Absa has given the run a bigger purpose. Every kilometre translates into opportunities for girls who might otherwise drop out of school. That is powerful motivation.”

Last year’s run attracted 6,250 participants, up from 5,500 the previous year, showing growing enthusiasm. This year, the incentives are also bigger.
The top two male and top two female runners who complete all seven hills will earn places in the prestigious Run Your City Series in South Africa. In addition, Bakayima has contributed two land titles for the top male and top female runners who complete all seven hills, raising the stakes even further.
Funds raised from the event go directly to organisations making a tangible difference in girls’ lives, including Baylor College of Medicine’s DREAMS programme, Amref Health Africa, Windle International, World Vision, Nyaka AIDS Orphan Project, Katalemwa Cheshire Home and Smart Girls Uganda. These partnerships ensure that every shilling raised helps remove barriers to girls’ education.
The event has also drawn strong corporate support. Pepsi returns as the hydration partner, while Bakayima, Mighty Rides and sixteen running clubs from across Uganda have already committed to participate, uniting a growing community around fitness and social impact.
