Uganda’s long-distance star Jacob Kiplimo has set a new world record in the half marathon after winning the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon in Portugal with an incredible time of 57 minutes and 20 seconds.
Kiplimo delivered a strong and controlled race to beat the previous world record, once again making history on the same course where he first set the record in 2021.
His earlier record also came in Lisbon, when he ran 57:31. The new mark improves that time by 11 seconds. The result will become official after confirmation by World Athletics.
The Ugandan runner has continued to establish himself as one of the world’s best distance athletes. Last year, he won the prestigious Chicago Marathon and has consistently delivered strong performances on the global stage.
Kiplimo also holds a unique place in Uganda’s sporting history. He became the country’s youngest-ever Olympian when he competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro at just 15 years old.
Earlier in his career, he won the under-20 title at the World Cross Country Championships in 2017, marking the beginning of what has become a remarkable journey in international athletics.
