Ugandan football coach Mike Hillary Mutebi has been found alive in Kisubi, Entebbe Municipality, hours after his family reported him missing.
According to police, Mutebi was discovered near a banana plantation in Kisubi along the Entebbe Road corridor. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital where doctors are currently examining him to determine his medical condition.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the development, saying authorities are closely monitoring the situation while medical teams continue to assess the veteran coach.
Earlier on Sunday, Mutebi’s family had raised concern after they lost contact with him and could not reach him on his known phone numbers. The family later appealed to the public for help in locating the celebrated tactician.
Mutebi is widely regarded as one of the most influential football coaches in Uganda. He is best known for his successful spell at Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club, where he oversaw one of the club’s most dominant periods between 2016 and 2021.
During that time, the Lugogo-based side won three Uganda Premier League titles, two domestic cups, four Super Cups and the regional CECAFA Clubs Cup.
Mutebi also guided KCCA to historic achievements on the continental stage. In 2018, the club became the first Ugandan team to reach the group stage of the CAF Champions League and later put up strong performances in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Apart from KCCA, Mutebi has coached several other clubs including SC Villa and Rwanda’s AS Kigali. He also briefly served as head coach of the Uganda national football team in 2004.
