Charles Livingstone Bukuwa is a Senior Information Officer at Parliament.
When did you join the employed ranks?
I started working as a freelance journalist in 1998. Although I was earning “cartoon” money that is what I say was when I joined those ranks.
How much were you earning?
I was earning Shs6000 per story.
When did you start rising through the ranks?
I joined other work places but later joining Parliament as an Assistant Editor of Hansard in 2009. I am now a Senior Information Officer.
How exactly did you come to your current rank?
There were internal adverts in Parliament, I applied and was promoted to this position in 2013.
What have been the greatest challenges you’ve encountered in your career?
Adjusting from working in the private sector to a public institution was not easy. The procedures followed in these two sectors are a complete opposite of each other.
What are your future career plans?
I was supposed to seek election for mayor of Mbale Municipality but I put that off. I however, will not give up on my political aspirations.
Who do you look up to in the career world?
I have a friend called Mubarak currently working at IGAD in Djibouti. He is amazing in everything he does.
What motivates you in your work?
Well, we all look for work with the issue of earning as priority. However, when we get in there, it is a service. Sometimes you forget that you are actually being paid for what you do.
What books do you read?
I love reading real life stories. I am currently reading a book about the Israeli secret service the Mossad.
Tell us about yourself.
I am married with two children. I went to Nabumali High School for my O’Level and Namasagali College for my A’Level. I did my journalism training at UMCAT before my Bachelor’s in Mass Communication from Makerere University. I have grown up all around the world. My early childhood was in Mbale in the tight grip of my mother.
