Mr-Erias-Lukwago

Lord mayor Erias Lukwago has today named some of the staff whom he will be working with  for the five years in office at City Hall, and perhaps most surprising of the appointments so far is NRM’s Aidah Nakuya whom the Lord Mayor has named his personal assistant.

Deo Mbabazi has meanwhile been appointed Nakuya’s Deputy.

Some sources, however, tell Matooke republic that it’s no wonder Lukwago has named Nakuya in his team, being that Nakuya is some kind of ‘rebel NRM member’, having been among the few NRM councilors who condemned government’s act of forcefully keeping Lukwago out of office for the larger chunk of his previous five-year term.

Nakuya’s ‘rebel’ membership of the NRM further came to light last year, during the collection of Tofaali at city hall by the Katikiiro of Buganda Eng. Charles Peter Mayiga, as she bravely stood up and told the Katikiiro that security personnel at City Hall had barred the Lord Mayor from accessing the venue to take part in the event.

Also earlier this year, Nakuya, after losing NRM party flag-bearer contest for Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, went on to stand as an independent candidate supported by opposition pressure group The Justice Forum. By this she further defied the official party stand which had Asia Nabisere as the party flag-bearer. Others in the race included Shifah Lukwago, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi however Nabirah Naggayi Ssempala won the seat.

Fresh from appointment by the Lord Mayor, Nakuya has already taken took the opportunity and invited all councilors and members of parliament in Kampala for a meeting slated for Thursday this week at the City Hall.
