While facing off National Resistance Movement Members of Parliament, president Museveni yesterday praised the beneficiaries of the “6bn handshake”.

The NRM MPs met the president at State House to discuss his role in the sanctioning of the Shs6bn Oil cash bonanza before the parliamentary plenary opens today.

“I reject that I did anything wrong and I am very proud of these young people. The only thing that could have gone wrong was to infiltrate names of people on the list who were not involved on the case behind my back and that if this was the case, it needs investigation,” Museveni said.

Members of Parliament are resuming their plenary meeting today afternoon. In a heated session last week, speaker Rebecca Kadaga closed proceedings at the August House. The adjournment was after Justice Steven Kavuma issued the controversial court order retraining Parliament from discussing the UGX6bn presidential handshake that left the house in disagreement. She described the order as “stupid”.

The motion to formally launch an investigation into the matter is expected to be moved on the floor of parliament today by MPs including the Mbarara municipality MP Micheal Tusiime an NRM member.
