voteAfter failure to deliver voting materials in Kampala and Wakiso districts on time, the Electoral Commission has decided to push voting time in some areas to 7pm.

Voting was supposed to commence at 7am and end at 4pm, but by 3pm, even some areas like Namuwongo, which about three kilometres away from the EC offices were yet to receive voting materials.

“There were some delays in delivery of materials but thanks for your patience. Some polling stations got ballots at 2pm. We have allowed voting in such areas to continue until 7pm,” EC Chairman Badru Kiggundu said.

EC says they concetrated on delivering materials to upcountry districts and they succeeded in that, but a few mishaps led to failure to deliver materials in Kampala and Wakiso.

The two districts have the largest population of voters and they are opposition strongholds, but Kiggundu denied foul play.

Kiggundu surprisingly went ahead to say that the electoral process has been smooth.

“Elections have gone on smoothly. Technoligies have worked suprbly,” Kiggundu said while addressing the press in the afternoon.
