Police has rescued a one day old baby girl from a pit latrine in Kajjansi. It is said that the baby was dumped by her mother, Rose Nanyanzi of Bulonda village, Kajjansi in Wakiso district after birth.

Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, said they were alerted by suspicious residents after Nanyanzi couldn’t account for the whereabouts of her newly born baby.

“We hastened to send our team from the directorate of fire and emergency to the scene and we found the baby alive,” Onyango said.

He added that they gave the baby first aid and rushed it to Mulago hospital for further treatment alongside its mother who in an attempt to end her own life, had taken poison and was unconscious.
