NBS Investigative Journalist, Raymond Mujuni and his NTV counterpart and news anchor Joel Ssenyonyi have denied “seeing, later on stealing” police handcuffs during the recent social media protest.

The duo were part of the demonstration led by Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) in Kampala that met stiff resistance from the police causing them to arrest a one Fred Nyanzi, Bobi Wine’s brother and later his bodyguard, Eddy Mutwe.

The police later summoned Bobi Wine and interrogated him for over eight hours at the Central Police Station in Kampala accusing him, his detained bodyguard and company for assaulting an officer and stealing his handcuffs – charges they have since extended to the renowned journalists.

The journalists have since rubbished the charges saying police has been planning to kidnap them.

“So police has charged Qatahar Raymond & I with theft of handcuffs. We haven’t been invited to record statements, but am told they intend to waylay us & take us kidnap style,” Ssenyonyi tweeted.

“Stop drama, if you have a case against us, summon us & we’ll show up,” he added.

Like everyone, we are only learning of both the summons and the charges from the media – None of our known addresses have been served. We are law abiding and should the police need us, with an effective summon, we shall be on hand to make our statements. 1/3 https://t.co/Tvk3aoOM12

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has reported sanctioned the charges.
