Yesterday, the Ministry of Health confirmed 10 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases from 1189 tests. All the 10 confirmed cases are Ugandans of which nine are truck drivers from the points of entry and one is a contact to a previously confirmed truck driver.

The Ministry says that the contact was under quarantine at the time of testing. This takes the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 22, with 69 recoveries and no deaths recorded yet.

The Ministry says that 30 positive foreign truck drivers were handed over to their country of origin and that samples from the community and contacts were 152.

Yesterday, truck drivers at the Ugandan points of entry protested the delays they are being subjected to as they wait for their COVID-19 results following President Museveni’s directive that all those who test positive must not be granted entry into Uganda, so they have to make long queues at the border as they wait for their results.

Ugandan truck drivers who test positive are immediately evacuated to hospitals.
