The Democratic Party Vice President Hon. Mukasa Mbidde ‘s revelation  yesterday of supporting  National Unity Platform Presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi with Mao’s  ‘approval’ shocked  many.

However his party President and DP flag bearer Nobert Mao has today refuted Mbidde’s claims. Mao said that DP has a constitution it follows.

“From yesterday, I have been hearing my Deputy said I allowed him to support another Presidential candidate. It’s not too important because politicians can say many things to calm a situation. I want people to know that there’s no one who can say the president is the one who can gave them permission to support someone because DP has a constitution,” said Mao

Mao also said that when you decide to be a DP member, you also decide to support everyone DP fronts and if the party didn’t want to have a presidential candidate they wouldn’t have held the Delegates Conference.

He also said that he understands the situation his Vice President is in in Masaka but maintained that dragging his name wasn’t necessary.

“I see the situation that is in Masaka. My Deputy is competing with NUP’s vice chairperson in Buganda. He has been with the Democratic Party in every situation.  I was also shocked however it  wasn’t necessary   for him to say that he got approval from me. if you decide, you have to stand your ground and take responsibility,” said Mao
