Afrosoul artist Kenneth Mugabi has shared the story of his breakthrough in the entertainment industry, revealing that his journey began on the Fun Factory Comedicine stage at the National Theatre.

Mugabi explained, “While we were on campus, a friend of mine named Shamim persistently urged Mendo (Teacher Mpamire) to take me to the National Theatre and provide me with an opportunity to perform – which he kindly did. He introduced me to Richard Tuwangye, who invited me to perform the following Thursday, and that’s how it all started.”

He went on to mention that his song ‘Kibun’omu’ became a crowd favourite, and when he held his first concert titled ‘Strings of My Soul’ in October 2018, nearly the entire audience came from the weekly comedy show.

Kenneth Mugabi, known for his enchanting acoustic guitar melodies, soulful vocals, and poetic lyrics, is set to host the ‘People of the Land’ concert on November 24th at the Kampala Serena Hotel. He expressed his gratitude, saying, “All of this is thanks to the opportunity I got from the Comedicine weekly show.”

Richard Tuwangye, one of the founding members of Fun Factory, commented, “The Fun Factory stage has nurtured numerous talents over the years, not only in comedy but also in various creative disciplines. We are proud of the impact we’ve had and continue to have on Uganda’s creative industry.”

Fun Factory is celebrating 20 years of weekly comedy with the Big Sunday comedy show, in partnership with Uganda Waragi, at the Kampala Serena Hotel this weekend. The event will feature performances by the comedy group’s legends, including Richard Tuwangye, Veronica Tindichebwa (Tindi), Dickson Zizinga, and others.

Hillary Baguma, the Uganda Waragi brand manager, expressed, “Uganda Waragi celebrates all things authentically Ugandan, and as the biggest supporter of comedy in Uganda, we are proud to support platforms that offer opportunities for creatives from all over the country to showcase their talents and develop their crafts.”

In addition to Fun Factory’s performances, the Big Sunday show will include acts by Dr. Hillary Okello, Agnes Akite, Lilian Mbabazi, and Janzi Band, along with a surprise after-party performance by a prominent Ugandan artist.

Tickets for the show can be purchased at www.quicket.co.ug, with options ranging from Shs120k for silver seats, Shs200k for gold, and Shs2.5 million for a platinum table.
