One of Uganda’s brightest teenage talents, Travis Mutyaba, has taken a major leap in his career by joining Zamalek, one of Egypt’s powerhouse clubs.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder was officially unveiled on Monday, signing a lucrative four-year contract that marks the beginning of his journey in the North African country.

Mutyaba wasted no time integrating himself into his new team, as he participated in his first training session with Zamalek on Tuesday, eager to make his mark on the pitch.

His move to Zamalek not only signifies a remarkable achievement for the young player but also promises life-changing financial benefits.

According to Kawowo Sports, Mutyaba’s four-and-a-half-year deal is estimated to be worth a staggering $750,000 (approximately Shs2.8 billion).

Out of this substantial sum, $530,000 (Shs2 billion) will be allocated to the player and his management team. Mutyaba, who was first managed by Sepuya Inc. Agency, is currently managed by Prosper Sports Agency.

Reports also indicate that the parent club will earn $220,000 (about Shs841,318,280) from the deal.

However, it should be noted that Mutyaba has been out of competitive club football since the conclusion of the 2022/23 Uganda Premier League season in June at SC Villa. Previous reports had suggested a potential move to the Georgian club Dinamo Tbilisi as he travelled to Georgia for trials before Zamalek came up with what seemed to be the best offer. The player and his management travelled from Georgia to Cairo to seal the deal.

Currently, it remains unclear whether it is Sports Club Villa or Dinamo Tbilisi who will receive the money as the parent club.

Regarding his salary, Mutyaba is set to earn $50,000 (at least Shs191,208,700) for the first six months, with additional bonuses and allowances yet to be disclosed. In the subsequent season (2024-2025), the teenager’s earnings will increase to $120,000 (about Shs458,900,880), with the potential for a doubling of his income in the remaining three seasons of the contract, which also includes options for renewal.

As he embarks on this new chapter, fans eagerly anticipate witnessing his prowess shine on the illustrious stage of Egyptian football.
