The American Embassy in Uganda in conjunction with the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) has launched a program that will train women from selected districts in Uganda.
Over 270 women have been selected from central and four other districts in Northern Uganda to undergo training in entrepreneurship skills. By the end of the program, these women are expected to have attained skills in business management, book keeping and other qualities required to manage a business.
The launch was presided over by US Ambassador to Uganda Deborah Malac who said that women are capable of doing a whole lot more than people think they are capable of.
Malac highlighted the challenges the girl child faces in Uganda like early pregnancies that make them drop out of school at an early age which sometimes affects their future and deter them from achieving their full potential.
“A girl between 14 and 15 will most likely drop out of school, get married off, and contract diseases. So we have curtailed programs to support the girl child just like AWE and others at the American Center Kampala,” said Malac.
Uganda is one of the 26 countries in the world that will benefit from the newly launched Academy of Women Entrepreneurs.
