The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has announced a crackdown on accommodation facilities operating without tourism licenses. Beginning November 18, any unlicensed facility will face closure under the regulations set by the Uganda Tourism Act, which mandates that all accommodation establishments must be licensed by UTB to operate legally.
The scope of this crackdown will affect a wide range of accommodation types, including hotels, lodges, guest houses, motels, inns, serviced apartments, cottages, villas, hostels, tented camps, and farmhouses. “It’s essential that we uphold the highest standards to guarantee that tourists experience the best of Uganda’s hospitality,” UTB stated in a letter to accommodation owners and managers.
