Nigerian singer Timaya, famed for his Sanko hit, performed at the Kakindu Stadium in Jinja on Saturday night. The show, dubbed the first regional Club Mega Fest after last year’s Club Mega Fest in Namboole, was slated to start at midday, according to programme, but it started at 7.30pm, as revellers just couldn’t show up during day time.

The numbers trickled in slowly and some blamed it on the UEFA Champions League finals between Barcelona and Juventus that was being screened on Saturday night, while others said many locals were saving their money for the following day’s Baba FM annual fete dubbed Ekinihiro.

However, by the time Timaya got on stage at 11pm, there was a fairly good crowd to sing to. He came on doing his Bum Bum hit and also did his popular songs like Sanko and Timaya.

A host of local artistes also performed at the show.

Homeboy Maro performs. He wore a T-shirt with the words “Proud to Be A Musoga.” So you people can go ahead with your stereotypes of Basoga being slow.

14 years ago, the biggest song in the country was More Money by a singer called Napoleon (L). He is the perfect description of one-hit wonder because we have never heard from him after that, but he is still respected in Jinja. Right is Busoga’s diva Ann Flavour who is the queen bee of Jinja.

Coco Finger (L). Right is David Lutalo.

Mr Mosh and Afande Kelekele were the emcees.

Weasel (L), with Busoga’s own Mowzey Radio.

Before we had Radio and Weasel, there was the Peter Miles and Menshan duo. But Peter Miles has kept Menshan in the shadows over the past years (just like this picture), as they have not released any new material together.

Sheebah Karungi enjoyed herself on stage.
