If you were biased about attending Galaxy FM’s Zzina Awards, basing your judgement on past  experiences with controversial awards, well Zzina Awards could have been your fresh breath of air. The fourth edition of awards which took place last Friday night at Theatre La Bonita saw Sheebah take four awards including Artiste of the Year, while Ykee Benda and Ceaserous won their first major music awards.

Ykee Benda receives his award from Apass.

The event did not leave guests wanting especially after controversial awards that have left a bitter taste in people’s mouths for the past few years. “I’m so excited that the ceremony went better than I had hoped, all my favourite artistes have been awarded fairly, I’m glad I came,” said Susan Nahabwe, a fan who came from Mbarara for the show.

The event was sold out as emcee comedian Emma Napoleone took to the stage and gave guests a good laugh the entire night.

Ykee Benda couldn’t hide his excitement upon receiving his first major award especially since it came barely two days after he was engaged to his long-time girlfriend. “This award is for you my love, it’s like the second engagement to you,” the Muna Kampala hit maker said to his fiancée Juliet Bagenda.

Sheebah Karungi who had earlier indicated that she was boycotting Ugandan awards was obviously elated at the smoothness with which the event ran. Well, maybe because she dominated the awards. The Diva took home Artiste of the Year, Female Artiste of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Fans Team.
