Ivan Ssemwanga lived the life and he lived large. While he might be away from our sight, his memories live on. Since its Throwback Thurday, we relive his epic 2011 introduction to then his heartthrob of 12 years at the time of the Kwanjula, Zari Hassan.

Ssemwanga’s dowry package was no ordinary. He shocked his in-laws, as well as guests when he delivered four trucks of Friesian cows, 300 head of cattle, 30 goats, four cars that included the bride’s H2 Hummer, a Volkswagen for the bride’s brother, a Toyota Spacio for the bride’s mother and an Isuzu pick-up truck for the bride’s father. In addition, the groom also presented 25 bags of sugar and other gifts, which are common at regular kwanjula ceremonies.

The after-party, held at the Kampala Serena Hotel’s Victoria Hall, was strictly invite-only, with emphasis on elegance. Anybody who violated the dresscode and terms of the event was thrown out. At about 2:00am, Ssemwanga left his seat to propose to Zari. However, his choice of words sounded confusing. While most grooms say ‘For better or worse,’ Ssemwanga changed the phrase to “For better and wealth,’ to the amusement of guests.

There was a lot to food and drink until morning. Each table that consisted eight to 10 people had a full cake.

RIP.
