Nkwata Bulungi: Are fans right to dismiss Sheebah’s new release? Here is a review of this new song

This review comes at a time when Sheebah is stomaching public criticism for allegedly releasing a “sub-standard” song.

The song under question is a sequel to her initial release of the year, Mukama Yamba.

Nkwata Bulungi, also titled, Bailamos is an Afro-beat single that is fueled by consistent cum primitive ragga instrumentals.

Sheebah unmasks her repentant self and puts on her party shoes for a dance fiesta.

The songstress enlists the services of seasoned producer Nash Wonders who offers her a consistent afro-dancehall beat that exudes very strong kidandali influences.

The instrumental is decent but with evidence from Nash’s previous works, he has had better days. This leaves the song devoid of flair, oomph, and presence, factors that arguably make for Sheebah Karungi’s DNA.

Beyond the production flaws, the infusion of Spanish on a traditional kidandali beat did not come in good taste. One man’s meat is another man’s poison.

Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias has a song of the same title, and it was undoubtedly his meat.

Sheebah on the other hand violated the Spanish language, and violating it on a Spanish beat does not help at all.

Nevertheless, the song still gives off a club banger aura given the bouncy nature of the instrumental and it is to no shock it has amassed over 100,000 views on YouTube in a time span of four days.

This is not the best of Sheebah and neither is it her worst. However, with Sheebah’s departure from Jeff, fans expect fresh horizons from arguably Uganda’s most talented female act and it is only yet to manifest.
