Iconic beer brand Guinness once again demonstrated its unwavering support for rugby in the country, making waves in Jinja on Good Friday.

Not only did Guinness announce its groundbreaking partnership with rugby sides Kobs, Rhinos, and Warriors, but it also took the mantle as the proud sponsor of the Jinja Fun Rugby tournament that took place at Pitstop Sports Lounge aka Dam Waters.

The event marked the perfect kickoff to the Easter weekend for Jinja’s rugby enthusiasts. The Guinness experience started right at the entrance where revellers were ushered in with the perfect Guinness serve as a starter for the day’s refreshments.

The day, tailor-made for rugby fans to unwind, play some matches, and revel in the joy of the sport, delivered on its promise, offering a perfect blend of sportsmanship and festive fun throughout. The annual Rugby Sevens Festival witnessed 10 men’s teams and six women’s teams from both Kenya and Uganda hitting the pitch, vying for the coveted trophy and cash prizes.

In a gripping finale, the Cobra’s triumphed in the Women’s Category, defeating the Mbale Eagles 10-05, while Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MUUST) reclaimed their throne as champions, edging out All Friends 19-14 in a thrilling men’s final.

Speaking to the media at the electrifying Fun Rugby experience, Guinness Brand Manager Roy Ronald Tumwizere emphasised Guinness’ deep-rooted commitment to the game of rugby and its deliberate efforts to engage with passionate fans.

“Rugby is a passion point for our consumers, and meeting them in the spaces they are passionate about is a top priority for Guinness,” said Tumwizere.

“Campaigns like the Black Shines Brightest Campaign epitomize this commitment. However, it is also important to note that Guinness as a brand, is synonymous with sports, particularly rugby and football, and the Jinja Fun Rugby festival not only celebrates rugby but also fosters fun moments with friends and family, something we strive to deliver to our consumers,” he added.

As the day climaxed, the stage was set for an unforgettable evening, with a stellar performance by Azawi and the Guinness Perfect Serve flowing abundantly, setting the scene for a festive Easter weekend. Azawi took revellers on a musical journey, treating them to fire performances of her biggest hits, including ‘Massavu,’ ‘Summer Bae,’ and ’10 Over 10,’ among others.

The Jinja Fun Rugby Festival, an annual spectacle dating back to 2003, continues to unite rugby enthusiasts under the thrilling Sevens format, promising exhilarating matches and cherished memories year after year.
