Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum is returning to Uganda to headline the much-anticipated dfcu Jazz in the Pearl Festival, set for this Saturday, May 10, at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

Best known for his iconic saxophone solo on Whitney Houston’s timeless hit “I Will Always Love You,” Whalum is expected to deliver an unforgettable performance filled with world-class music and soulful storytelling.

“This will be my third time performing in Uganda, and the excitement is as high as ever,” said the 66-year-old American jazz legend. “Each performance feels brand new. I can’t wait to serenade my fans once again.”

Joining Whalum on stage will be some of Uganda’s most celebrated jazz talents, including Isaiah Katumwa, Tshaka Mayanja, and the Black Roots Academy of Soul, promising a rich fusion of international flair and local rhythm.

Organized by dfcu Bank, the Jazz in the Pearl Festival is more than just a musical event—it reflects the bank’s continued commitment to nurturing Uganda’s creative industries and building community through the arts.

“Music has an extraordinary ability to transcend boundaries and connect people,” said Helena Mayanja, dfcu’s Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability. “For six decades, dfcu has been driven by a vision of building a community of progress. This festival is a celebration of that journey with the Ugandan people.”

Tickets are currently on sale, with early bird general admission priced at Shs 250,000 and tables for eight available at Shs 6 million. Purchases can be made at selected dfcu branches or online at www.quicket.co.ug.
