Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, Democratic Party’s president, Norbert Mao and Makerere University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe will lead the dignitaries at the launch of Africa Strategic Leadership Centre on Tuesday, July 31.

The launch will be on the sidelines of the High-Level Dialogue that will take place at the Sheraton Hotel, Kampala bringing together leaders from all over Africa in the academia, research and policy sector to discuss how think tanks can turn around Africa’s fortunes in the 21st Century.

The dialogue will also cover areas of leadership, peace and security, climate change and environmental conservation, food security, agriculture, and how these can be leveraged to catapult Africa to economic development.

In an interview with Matooke Republic, Awel Uwihanganye, the Associate Director and Secretary to the Board, Africa Strategic Leadership Centre argued that in order to find sustainable solutions that address these concerns, the Centre will use research as a tool to facilitate evidence-based policy to enhance public and private sector development in Africa.

“At the dialogue, we will ask the key questions, for instance, how can Africans leverage the economic potential of their natural resources? Is Africa a continent on the move forward, or in circles? How does Africa develop a generation of future leaders who will transform the continent?”

The dialogue will take place from 8 am -12:45 pm in the Rwenzori Ballroom at the Sheraton Hotel.

BBC’s Alan Kasujja will chair the panel discussion that will feature Ms Samia Yaba Christina Nkrumah, Ghanaian Leader of the Convention Peoples Party, DP’s Norbert Mao among other leaders.
