Kampala’s electronic music scene got a major boost on Friday, 2 October, as Ugandan DJ The Last Gal held her maiden concert at Guvnor Street.
The show attracted music lovers, fellow DJs and entertainment personalities who turned up to support Kanyunyuzi Rachel Heyzo, popularly known as The Last Gal, as she reached an important milestone in her career.

The event featured performances from some of Uganda’s well-known DJs, including DJ Roja, Slick Stuart, Selector Jay, DJ Lito, DJ Jose, Fem DJ, DJ Mercy and Sir Aludah.
MCs Izzy the Business, Saint Trevor, Hanz MC and Morgan MC kept the crowd entertained throughout the night as the DJs took turns behind the decks.

The concert also highlighted the growing presence of female DJs in Uganda’s nightlife industry, with The Last Gal becoming the second female DJ in Uganda to stage a concert of such scale.
The Last Gal began her DJ career in 2022 at Gong Academy under the mentorship of Derrick Files. She took a break in 2023 to concentrate on her studies and develop her skills before returning to Uganda in February 2024.

Since her return, she has continued to build a name for herself through her focus on electronic music, particularly house and garage. Her sound offers a different experience from the Afrobeats, dancehall and Amapiano styles that dominate much of Kampala’s mainstream nightlife.
Her maiden concert marked another step in that journey, giving her a platform to showcase her sound while bringing together some of the country’s leading DJs.
The successful show at Guvnor Street now adds another major milestone to The Last Gal’s growing career and further highlights the opportunities for female DJs to take leading roles in Uganda’s entertainment industry.
