Kampala’s electronic music scene will come alive on 2 October as DJ and entertainer The Last Gal hosts her first solo headline rave at Guvnor Street.
The event will bring together a line-up of DJs, selectors and MCs, including DJ Roja, Slick Stuart, Selector Jay, DJ Lito, DJ Jose, Fem DJ, DJ Mercy and Sir Aludah.
They will be joined by Izzy the Business, Saint Trevor, Hanz MC and Morgan MC, who will lead the crowd through the night.
For The Last Gal, whose real name is Kanyunyuzi Rachel Heyzo, the event marks an important step in her journey as a DJ and electronic music performer.
Her career began in 2022 at Gong Academy, where she trained under the mentorship of Derrick Files. She took a break in 2023 to focus on her studies and returned to Uganda in February 2024, a period she considers a turning point in her career.
Since then, she has developed a sound centred on electronic music, particularly house and garage, setting her apart from the Afrobeats, dancehall and Amapiano sounds that dominate much of Kampala’s nightlife.
The October 2 event will give her an opportunity to put that sound at the centre of a full-night experience while sharing the stage with some of the city’s established entertainment names.
DJ Roja and Slick Stuart will bring their experience from Uganda’s mainstream club and entertainment scene, while Selector Jay, DJ Lito, DJ Jose, Fem DJ, DJ Mercy and Sir Aludah will add different styles to the line-up.
The MCs will also play a key role in keeping the crowd engaged throughout the night, combining music with live entertainment and audience interaction.
The rave is expected to feature electronic music, audiovisual production, lighting and performances, creating a festival-style experience at Guvnor Street.
For The Last Gal, the event is also an opportunity to showcase how her sound and identity have evolved since she began her journey in 2022.
What started as an emerging DJ career has gradually grown into a distinct presence within Kampala’s nightlife scene. On 2 October, she will take centre stage for the first time with a show built around the music and electronic sound that have come to define her.
