The documentary “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” highlighting the life of National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader Robert Kyagulanyi, has secured another international award at the Cinema for Peace Awards.

Directed by Christopher Sharp and Moses Bwayo, this observational film represents a six-year dedication to portraying Kyangulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, and his journey challenging the leadership of President Yoweri Museveni.

The documentary explores the singer-turned-politician’s use of music as a tool for activism and his role as an Independent Member of Parliament advocating for the rights of the people.

On Monday at the Cinema for Peace Awards ceremony held in Berlin, Germany, Bobi Wine and other filmmakers were honoured with awards.

“Bobi Wine: The People’s President” won the Cinema for Peace Dove for Political Film of the Year. In his acceptance speech, Bobi Wine dedicated the award to all political prisoners in Uganda and every Ugandan striving for the liberation of their country.

Since 2002, the awards have recognized exceptional filmmakers and celebrated films that address humanitarian and environmental issues.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Bobi Wine’s documentary scooped an award at the 39th International Documentary Association’s (IDA) Awards, and it was also nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film at this year’s Oscars Awards.
