In celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s Month, UBA Uganda, through its unwavering commitment to community development and wellness, “accelerated action” as the theme for this year at Masese Seed Secondary School in Jinja. A team led by Charity Ngabirano, UBA Uganda’s Head of EMDOs, and Hoziana Niyonsaba, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, together with the Jinja Branch team, visited the school to donate more than 2,000 packs of sanitary wear to all female students, along with life experience stories that encouraged them to stay focused and determined in their education and personal goals.
The initiative, aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and ensuring uninterrupted education for girls, was warmly received by the school administration and students. Hajjati Aisha Male Yiga, the school’s Headteacher, expressed her gratitude, emphasizing the impact of the donation.
“Many of our students struggle to access sanitary wear, which significantly affects their attendance and academic performance, as most of them stay at home during those feminine days. With such a generous donation from UBA, our girls are assured of several months of uninterrupted studies. We are truly grateful for this support,” she stated.
During the engagement, Charity Ngabirano encouraged the students to remain steadfast in their dreams and aspirations. She highlighted the significance of this year’s International Women’s Day colors—green, purple, and white—which symbolize hope, justice, and dignity.
“It is important for you, as young girls, to believe in yourselves and stay true and pure to your ambitions. No dream is too big if you remain focused and intentional about your goals,” she remarked while speaking to the schoolgirls.
Hoziana Niyonsaba further inspired the students, reminding them of their worth and potential regardless of their background.
“Success is not defined by where you come from or how big the school you have gone to is, but by your determination and mindset. Each of you has the ability to achieve greatness,” she said. “There are so many important people in this country from your region who have gone through government schools like this one,” she emphasized.
Beyond the sanitary wear donation, UBA reaffirmed its commitment to education through the Read Africa Initiative by distributing more than 2,500 literature and English books to both male and female students at the school, encouraging a strong reading culture and academic excellence.
Through the UBA Foundation, the bank remains dedicated to empowering communities through impactful initiatives that promote education, gender equality, youth development, and environmental conservation.
