Ugandan singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Hudson Mutumba, better known by his stage name Hudson Hunx, is back in the spotlight with a brand new single titled Okikola Otya. Signed under Black Effect Records, the gifted Afrobeats, R&B, and reggae fusionist not only wrote but also produced the track himself at Crxtalmind Studios.

In Okikola Otya, Hudson celebrates the extraordinary beauty and aura of women who stand out from the crowd.

“You see many women every day, but once in a while, there’s that one who just leaves you in awe,” Hudson shared. “That’s where the inspiration came from. It’s basically me asking, ‘How do you do it?’”

Though this track is currently getting the buzz, Hudson reveals he’s quietly been putting in work behind the scenes.

“I’ve written and produced several songs for upcoming artists,” he said. “Some haven’t made it to TV or radio yet, but the talent is there.”

A Musical Journey Rooted in Family and Faith

Born on 5th October 1993 at Rubaga Hospital, Hudson grew up in Lungujja, Rubaga, as one of eleven siblings in a musically inclined household.

“My sisters sang, and my brothers played instruments,” he recalls. “Music was always around me.”

Unlike many Ugandan parents who frown upon the idea of their children pursuing music, Hudson’s parents were encouraging from the start.

“They never stopped me. They always wished me well,” he said.

His early talent was first noticed in church, and in 2014, he rose to national attention after participating in the Coca-Cola Rated Next competition, where he made it to the top 10 finalists.

In 2020, he released his debut album ‘Mutima’, a 10-track project blending gospel and love songs, showcasing both his vocal and songwriting range.

Hudson has also lent his smooth background vocals to some of the biggest names in African music, including Ayra Starr, Juliana Kanyomozi, Maddox Ssematimba, Myko Ouma, Irene Namubiru, Azawi, and Naava Grey — both in studio and on stage.
