Mbarara came alive on Friday night as the Tusker Lite Neon Raves auditions turned Soho Terrace into a pulsating stage of rhythm, movement and raw talent, setting the tone for what promises to be an unforgettable cultural and sporting showcase later this month.
Dance crews from across the region battled it out for a place in the highly anticipated regional finale next week. By the end of the night, six standout crews had earned their spot: Ice Breakers Dance Crew, TYG Dancers, Project Shadow Dancers, Eagle Dancers, The Mob Dancers and K2 Dancers.

Each group brought a distinct flavour to the floor, from tightly synchronized routines to high-energy street dance and amapiano-infused choreography, reflecting the diversity and evolution of Uganda’s dance scene. The judges were tasked with narrowing down a fiercely competitive field, ultimately selecting crews that demonstrated not just technical ability, but creativity, stage presence and crowd connection.

The journey now heads to the iconic Mugaba Palace heritage site, where the six crews will face off in the regional finale on March 28. The finale will coincide with the Mbarara City Marathon, creating a unique fusion of sport and entertainment that is fast becoming a hallmark of the Tusker Lite experience.

The alignment of the Neon Raves with the marathon underscores a growing trend of blending athletic events with lifestyle and youth culture, drawing in diverse audiences and transforming Mbarara into a multi-dimensional destination for both runners and revelers.
Speaking ahead of the finale, Sandra Againe, the Tusker Lite Brand Manager noted, “This finale is set to bring out the very best of Mbarara’s dance crews. The level of talent we witnessed at the auditions was incredible, and we expect an even bigger showcase at Mugaba Palace. Beyond the competition, we have curated surprise performances that will elevate the experience and make it a truly unforgettable night for everyone who attends.”
For the qualified crews, the stakes have never been higher. Beyond the title, the finale offers a platform for national visibility and the chance to cement their place among Uganda’s rising dance elite; because the best crews at the regionals will qualify for the national dance off, where all the best crews from the regions will face off.
As March 28 approaches, Mbarara is bracing for a double spectacle, one on the tarmac, where runners will test endurance and grit, and another under neon lights, where dance crews will battle for supremacy in a celebration of movement, music and modern Ugandan culture.
